Men’s Open Division
The Men’s Open is the main event at 2023 Mr. Olympia and will take two nights to cover, with the prejudging starting on Friday, November 3, 2023, followed by the finals on Saturday, November 3, 2023. This will be the 59th Mr. Olympia competition ever, and its turnout will be competitive. “Some big names are returning such as Derek Lunsford who got a close second right behind Hadi Choopan, who will also be coming back to try and reclaim the title, but last year’s third place winner, Nick Walker, will not be returning due to an unexpected hamstring injury”.

Classic Physique Division
The Classic Physique division is another popular category with star bodybuilders, such as Chris Bumstead, who is the reigning champ that will be gunning for his fifth title, Ramon “Dino” Rocha Queiroz who has been right on the heels of Bumstead, and Urs Kalecinski who is quickly climbing the ladder. Classic is one of the newer divisions, only coming to the surface in 2016, and it is rapidly growing in popularity as the physiques are seen as more “desirable” than the other men’s divisions. The competitors in Classic are bigger than the Men’s Physique athletes but not quite as big as the Men’s Open contenders, as they are trying to mirror the physiques of the “Golden Era” of bodybuilding, like when Arnold Schwarzenegger was dominating the stage.

Men’s Physique Division
The Men’s Physique category brings some exciting news this year. The unique buzz around the comeback of four-time champion Jeremy Buendia will be interesting to watch. The Men’s Physique division has had only five winners since its inception in 2012. Three of those winners are in this year’s lineup.
While Buendia has won the title four times, he hasn’t competed since 2018 and he’ll have to dual it out with last year’s winner, Erin Banks, and Brandon Hendrickson, a three-time champion in the same category. Also, watch out for athletes like Kyron Holden, who recently caused an unexpected upset in the Legion Sports Fest Pro this year by beating Banks.

Men’s 212
The Men’s 212 bodybuilders are the next biggest division besides the Men’s Open and Classic. The men in this category hold more muscle mass than the Classic Physique contenders but are not quite as big as the Men’s Open competitors, and they are generally shorter. This year, you’ll see some past champions on stage, which include the reigning champ Shaun Clarida, the 2019 champ and another top pick, Kamal Elgargni, as well as Hidetada Yamagishi, amongst other competitors. Fortunately for them and other competitors, the previous Men’s 212 champ, Derek Lunsford, won’t compete in the Men’s 212 class for the immediate future. Instead, he is giving the Men’s open title another shot, after receiving the special invitation to compete last year and placing second. And Ronnie Coleman believes that Lunsford has a shot at winning the Mr. Olympia title one day, maybe even this year.
